I was reading up some on polyphasic sleep, and it is now apparent to me that it is just a pseudo-babble fad. But in the course of my wanderings I did find this awesome 2005 article that sums up the field of sleep research.
It starts with modern society’s “sleep bulimia,” then goes on to describe the importance of sleep for normal biological function, the cognitive costs of sleep deprivation, the links between sleep and the adenosine cycle, explains the relationship between the the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) and circadian rhythms, Â and then ends will a little bit more on the societal and personal costs of chronic sleep deprivation.
Too bad my sporadic all-nighter habit is probably here to stay.
